Instagram is about to launch its new update, and it will ask it’s users to provide their age. The users need to provide their date of birth to use the application smoothly.

Previously, Instagram only checked whether the user is at least thirteen years old. But now, the Facebook-owned company is bringing change in its terms.

According to the company, such changes were brought into consideration, keeping in mind the privacy and safety of young users.

Based on the date of birth, the contents, privacy settings, and features will be made available by the application. However, the application has ensured the age details will not be revealed to the public in a particular profile.

Further, the spokesperson of Instagram has also told the NPR, that the age group will also be used to target advertisements.
